Outreach

The EAP Outreach Team

Home tuition with the EAP Outreach team is available for pupils with health needs who are unable to attend their home school.  Tuition is available across the four Key Stages (ages 5 – 16).

Referrals are sent to the Head of Ealing Alternative Provision and may be made by:

  • The pupil’s school with supporting medical documents, or;
  • Directly from medical professionals involved with the child’s treatment (eg Consultant)

In line with statutory requirements, referrals are accepted when the predicted absence is longer than 15 days and supported by medical evidence. Home tuition lesson duration is usually one hour a day, five days a week.

An initial home visit is made by a member of the medical outreach team who also takes a risk assessment of the premises.  The needs of the child will be discussed based on the information provided in the referral.  This information is then formally fed back to the home tuition team.

Academic information is gathered from the pupil’s home school and a close working relationship is developed in order to ensure continuity of learning for the pupil. Core activities include supporting and developing literacy, numeracy, creative art and ICT skills.  Other subjects are also covered if required.

The medical outreach team will also liaise with medical professionals as required to assess and enable individual pupils to have access to appropriate educational activities within the time frame of the provision.

At the conclusion of medical treatment, the team may also assist with reintegration when the child is ready to return to school.  In the case of continuing or recurring medical need, home tuition can be resumed when required.

Pupils with Health Needs from Reception through to Year 11 are referred to the Outreach Team and receive tuition either on site or at home. The medical team teachers support reintegration to school as and when appropriate and pupils remain on dual roll.
